The first real chilly morning of the autumn greeted the 11 teams at the finale’ of the Premier Marine Pro Tour event which falls under the PAYCHECK Tournament Series umbrella. The wind actually laid down until about 12:30 so the anglers got about 5 hours of decent weather fishing in.
There was only supposed to be one other small club tournament at Anchor Marina but 3 unannounced and unscheduled clubs showed up making the launch a little congested, but everyone was in the water ready to go by safe lite.
Also at stake today was the Top Gun award which honors the team with the best 4 finishes out of the five tournaments. There was no walk-away shoo-in as about 6 teams were in the hunt.
4 teams chose a 5 pound plus bass as their lunker and some teams had 2 that went over 5 pounds. Ken Wood, Jr and Willie Barrett finished in 5th place with 4 bass but one of them was the tournament lunker, a 5.53 pounder earning them a plaque and $110.
JT Lang and Andrew Wiley put 14.67 pounds on the scale to finish in 4th and win $125. The first 2 places out of the money are paid by the Option Pot so JT and Andrew won 45% of it.
Steve Myers and Chris Lang won the other 55% of the Option Pot with a big limit that weighed 18.16 pounds, good for $150 and 2 plaques.
For the second week in a row John Valdez and Ed Davis finished just ahead of Steve and his partner. Today, John and Ed weighed in a limit of largemouth that weighed 18.48 pounds and were awarded 2 plaques and $785.
Finishing in the top spot today were Mike Sentore and Eric Danner with an astounding 21.33 pounds. Their incredible bag of bass earned them $1840 in cash and 2 plaques.
The Top Gun award was presented to the team with the best 4 finishes. 5% from each entry went into the Top Gun fund and the total amount in there after the final event was $1091. With a total score of 15 (a 4th, 1st, and 2 5th place finishes) Ken Wood, JR and Willie Barrett were declared Top Gun Team of the Year. They edged out Mike Sentore and Eric Danner ( a 4th, 5th, 6th, and 1st place finishes) by a mere point with a score of 16.
