Cool weather, low humidity, and calmer waters greeted the 19 teams participating in the 6th PAYCHECK Oneida Teams event on September 7 out of Oneida Shores County Park. This was quite a contrast from harsher conditions the day before.
One would have thought the cooler weather would have made smallmouth the dominant species in this tournament but you can throw that theory out the window as this day belonged to the green variety of bass. However, the smallmouth that did come to the scales were all quality avaeraging about 3 ½ pounds.
Stan Sypeck and Steve Croll claimed 3rd place today with 5 bass that totaled 18.53 pounds, good for plaques and $420. Add that to yesterday’s winnings and their weekend netted them $1860. Not bad!
The husband/wife team of Bob and Aggie Makarewicz nudged just ahead with 18.57 pounds landing them in 2nd place. Bob received 2 plaques and Aggie pocketed the $770 in prize money! Good job!
“Everyone knows that.” That’s not just a popular cliché’ on the insurance commercial. Everyone knows that Oneida Lake is capable of producing quality green and brown bass. However, yesterday the tournament field and spectators alike were in awe of the big bass of the tournament captured by Jerry Norakus and Frank Sipple. When Frank hoisted the 7.26 pound largemouth out of their sack you could hear lots of exclamations from the crowd, the most popular being “Holy %$@#! Their total weight was 19.62 pounds giving them the victory by more than a pound. They made their first win of the season a clean sweep…1st place, top Option pot money, and Big Bass for a total of $1580. They also received 3 plaques. Congratulations!
The final PAYCHECK Oneida Teams tournament will be held September 27th.
