Just 3 teams showed up on a beautiful day on the Eastern Shore peninsula as the second PAYCHECK Eastern Shore tournament was held out of Phillips landing in laurel, Delaware on April 6.
Although just below freezing at launch time, the weather quickly warmed to the upper 50’s which made for a beautiful day on the water, definitely one of the nicest of the year so far.
Although we didn’t seen any giants weighed in today, each team reported catching over 20 bass, a good sign that the river system is in balance. All 3 teams planned to stay in Delaware waters so it was agreed that the Delaware length limit of 12″ would be enforced, especially with just 3 teams.
Ron Horton fished solo today as his partner Bob Metzgar had another commitment. Ron managed 3 keepers for 2.70 pounds. Ron received plaques for 3rd place. Ron also received another unexpected award. As earlier advertised, any team who fished the first 2 Eastern Shore tournaments would have their name placed into a drawing for a $250 Power Pole gift certificate. Team Horton/Metzgar were the only team to fish the first 2 so Director JT Lang presented them with the certificate.
Second place today went to the team of Mark Hogan and Tony Kibler with a nice limit that weighed 9.77 pounds. They also claimed the lunker prize with a fat 2.97 largemouth. Coupled with the second place option pot they pocketed $50 and were presented with 3 plaques.
Champions today were Mike Morris and Brian LaCair who barely nudged ahead of Mark and Tony with 9.96 pounds. They also received plaques and cash totaling $445, a nice little payout for a 3-boat tournament.
The next PAYCHECK Eastern Shore tournament will be held May 4th out of Turners Creek on the Sassafras. The Delaware TBF Buddy tournament is there also but JT and Brian Barnes are allowing teams to enter both events so we should have a nice turnout.
