Friday, August 22 was the 5th PAYCHECK Friday tournament launching from Anchor Marina. The weather was pretty nice as far as PAYCHECK tournaments go, especially since there was supposed to be several rainy, stormy periods throughout the day.
24 boats were in the water and ready to blast off by 6:05AM. Roostertails were scattered in all directions as each team made their way toward their best fishing areas.
Only a couple of teams returned a bit earlier then their assigned check-in times as the rest stuck it out to the end. Several go-fast boats were “sharing” the launching ramp but everyone still was able to pull their boat and weigh their fish in a reasonable amount of time.
With a featured 1-in-4 payback a total of 6 places were paid. There were no deductions or penalties as all 82 bass were returned to their habitat alive and happy.
Rich Bruce and Bill McDonaugh from “Team Nauti Goose” collected a check for finishing in 6th place with 16.14 pounds. Their prize money was $180.
Finishing in 5th place today were Dave Anderson and wife Claire who have been one of the summer’s most consistent team…consistently putting big bass in the boat and consistently winning money! Today was no different as they weighed 17.21 pounds and received $220.
Don Muir and Larry Craighead are on a roll cashing in consecutive tournaments. They had 17.30 pounds today and won $290 in prize money for 4th place. Thanks to Larry for serving as photographer today!
Precision Tackle Pro Staffer John Valdez and Rob Tipton teamed up for a 3rd place finish today 2with 17.92 pounds. That was good for 2 plaques and $500!
John Schoener and John Detwiler put 18.1 pounds of bass on the scales and claimed 2nd place. They won 2 plaques and, including Option Pot money, $820.
Joe Hunt left his shirt-and-tie office to work out of his preferred office, his Triton bass boat today. Working extra hard since he fished alone, he amassed a total weight of 18.57 pounds of green bass. He also boated the tournament lunker…a 6.20 pound largemouth that was as fat as any pre-spawn fish you would see. Including 1st place Option Pot Joe pocketed $1800 and won 3 more plaques for whichever office he chooses to hang them. Congratulations!
