The 7th and final PAYCHECK Friday tournament was finally held today, October 31 out of Anchor Marina. What a contrast in the weather from when this tournament was originally scheduled in March. There was no frozen water today, the water temp was around 60 as was the air temp, and nobody’s Power Poles froze in the deployed position.
Only 7 teams took advantage of the beautiful Halloween weather today but those 7 teams are some of the stoutest on the Upper Bay: any of them are a threat to win 12 months out of the year.
Rich Bruce and Bill McDonaugh capped off a great PAYCHECK Friday season with 5 bass that weighed 16.45 pounds. Their catch included a 3 ½ pound largemouth that threw a spinnerbait at the boat after a leap but fell right into the net. They caught a bass AND a break!
For the second consecutive weekend Duane Essick and Jay Pirollo finshed second in a PAYCHECK tournament. Today, however they did it in style! Style, meaning 21.49 pounds for 5 bass! They busted out the big bass of the tournament which was a 6.68 pound largemouth! That was good for $70 and $40 option pot bonus money. Great job!
When Joe Hunt emptied his catch into the tub it was clear to all that were watching that it was going to make it a close finish…and it was. Bothe team gathered behind the scale and watched as it settled at 22.46 pounds…a slim margin of victory. Joes winning weight included a nice smallmouth, too. With a 1-in-4 format, one more boat was required to pay 2 places so Joe was the beneficiary of a winner-take-all payout that totaled $1045 including option pot prize money. Congratulations!
The next PAYCHECK Fall/Winter series moves to Conowingo on November 8th, then back to the Upper Bay out of Anchor on November 16, and returns to the Potomac on November 29th out of Marshall Hall.
