The second PAYCHECK Potomac Division tournament was held on May 9th out of Smallwood State Park with 18 teams in attendance. The weather was clear and all teams were in the water early and ready to go at 5:50AM.
Teams scattered in all directions when their number was called. Some headed toward the back of Mattawoman Creek while other ventured either north or south on the main stem of the Potomac River.
All but one team returned with a 5 bass limit as weigh-in commenced at 3:00PM.
PAYCHECK not only features a 90% payout but also boasts a 1-in-4 payback instead of the usual 1-in-5. This meant that today 4 teams would be paid.
Kenneth Thompson and David Hooker finished the tournament in 4th place today with 5 nice fish that weighed 15.46 pounds. They received $200 in prize money.
Ed Riley partnered with Troy Collins today and they weighed 5 bass for 15.51 pounds to claim 3rd place. In addition to $400 in prize money, they received two plaques.
Steve Seen and Mike White squelched the rumor that there were no big bass in the Potomac River anymore. They captured the tournament lunker which weighed 6.59 pounds and anchored their bag of bass that weighed 16.35 pounds, good for 2nd place. Steve and Mike took home 3 plaques and a total of $900 in prize money.
Greg Wilder and Mike Ortel made it a photo finish and won by a nose with 5 bass that weighed 16.44 pounds. They were each awarded a plaque and a total of $1410 including 1st place Option Pot money. Congratulations!
